LEGO Batman 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box build

At almost 4,000 pieces, 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box has a lot of room to play with. However, it doesn’t have to take up too much space on a shelf, as it can be closed shut to form a display box that allows only glimpses of the details inside through an outline of Batman’s iconic winged logo.

Once you take a look at the cave’s interior, you’ll see there’s plenty more to discover, from a buildable Batmobile to plenty of smaller gadgets that make Batman one of the most well-kitted-out superheroes in history. Weapons and tools are hung from the grey, white and black walls, with LEGO steps allowing the seven included minifigures access to the cave’s upper levels.

LEGO Batman 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box minifigures

Speaking of which, the exclusive new minifigures in 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box are Catwoman, The Penguin, Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, Max Shreck (aka Selina Kyle’s former boss and Penguin’s ally) and two versions of Batman. These inclusions confirm that this brick-built Batcave is based on Warner Bros.’ Batman Returns from 1992, directed by Tim Burton.

All of the minifigures come with their own signature accessories, whether that’s a teapot for Alfred, horned helmet for Bruce or trick umbrella for The Penguin.

LEGO Batman 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box display

As noted above, you can display 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box in two ways: unfolded to reveal the inside of the Batcave and all of its features, or closed as a black display box, with a bat-shaped cutout offering a peek inside. Honestly, it’s a pretty cool option that saves space on your shelf while still offering enough room for engaging with the (many) interactive features inside.

Nonetheless, the entire set stands at 29cm high, 51cm wide and 14cm deep, so it’s certainly not a small build, even when contained in its box.

LEGO Batman 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box interactive features

As with any Batcave set, you know there have to be gadgets and functions galore – and 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box is no exception. Once built, you’ll be able to move furniture, change images on the computer display screen, open a vault and a door, and activate several light bricks for a more dynamic look.

LEGO Batman 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box inspiration

Inspired by Tim Burton’s Batman Returns from 1992, the minifigures from 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box are based on the film’s core cast of Michael Keaton’s Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Danny DeVito’s The Penguin, Christopher Walken’s Max Shreck, and Michael Gough’s Alfred Pennyworth.

The buildable Batmobile is also styled after the movie’s iconic vehicle, with its unusual front and slanted sides.

You’ll be able to see all these details and more for yourself from June 5 for LEGO VIPs and June 8 for everyone else, with LEGO Batman 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box retailing for £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 from launch.
