LEGO Batman rumoured to make a proper comeback in summer 2023

There’s hope yet for LEGO DC fans, as multiple LEGO Batman sets are rumoured to be swooping on to shelves in summer 2023.

The non-Marvel arm of the LEGO Group’s superhero themes has been given short shrift over the past 12 months, with just one solitary set – 76220 Batman versus Harley Quinn – rolling out of Billund. That’s amidst a backdrop of turmoil at Warner Bros., which is currently seeking to steady the DC ship on the silver screen, placing James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm.

Instagram user 1414falconfan now reports that things will finally get back on course for LEGO Batman in summer 2023, when ‘multiple sets’ related to the Caped Crusader will land on shelves. The source specifically points to Batman rather than DC as a whole, suggesting the sets will concentrate on the Dark Knight first and foremost.

As with plenty of previous LEGO DC sets, though, there’s always a chance that Bats might be accompanied by a few wider characters from the DC universe, like Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and so on – and that he could be facing off against more than just his own Rogues Gallery.

The door is wide open for the LEGO Group to deliver for DC to the extent that it does with Marvel, but we’ll have to wait and see whether it seizes that opportunity. For now, all word of future LEGO Batman sets should be treated lightly until officially confirmed.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
