LEGO Ideas 21338 A-Frame Cabin marks a major milestone for one of its designers

The newly-revealed LEGO Ideas 21338 A-Frame Cabin marks a major milestone for one of the five LEGO designers who brought the fan submission to shelves.

Originally designed and submitted to LEGO Ideas by Italian builder Andrea Lattanzio, 21338 A-Frame Cabin was transformed into an official set by LEGO designers Justin Ramsden, Ollie Gregory and Woon Tze Che. The graphics for the 2,082-piece set – including stickers and printed pieces – were designed by Kenza Faten, while the instructions were illustrated by Ashwin Visser.

For at least one member of that design team, 21338 A-Frame Cabin doesn’t just represent the 46th addition to the LEGO Ideas catalogue: it also marks a personal milestone. That’s because the rustic lodge is actually the 100th LEGO product designed by Justin Ramsden, who originally joined the LEGO Group in January 2015.

Ramsden’s earliest sets are a mix of Marvel builds, including the San Diego Comic-Con 2015 exclusive SDCC2015 Throne of Ultron, 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle and 76051 Super Hero Airport Battle. His first Ideas set also launched pretty early into his career with the LEGO Group, in 2016’s 21306 The Beatles Yellow Submarine.

In the years since, he’s designed sets across themes including Harry Potter (71043 Hogwarts Castle, 75968 4 Privet Drive), Monkie Kid (80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech, 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout) and Stranger Things (75810 The Upside Down), to name a few. The versatile designer has also worked on polybags, BrickHeadz sets, gifts-with-purchase and even LEGO magazine gifts.

So far, Ramsden has five 2023 sets to his name: 80111 Lunar New Year Parade, 30656 Monkey King Marketplace, 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout, 212325 Batcycle (included with the LEGO Super Heroes magazine) and now 21338 A-Frame Cabin. The LEGO Ideas set is far and away the biggest of them all, and is packed with new pieces, details and a part that’s confounded the community.

21338 A-Frame Cabin will be available to purchase for VIP members from February 1, or from February 4 for everyone else, for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99. Click here to take a visual tour of the idyllic setting.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
