LEGO Star Wars 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet review

75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet is one of the latest and one of the best LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection sets so far.

Perfectly timed for the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, LEGO Star Wars 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet is seemingly perfectly designed for the medium of LEGO. With all sorts of interesting angles across a notable and iconic design from the original trilogy, the product images alone tell you just how well this particular LEGO set looks. And in person it also looks just as good.

The beauty of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection since its introduce almost three years ago now is how the design team continue to take what is a very straight-forward concept and offer up some of the theme’s most interesting, intricate and inviting LEGO sets.

Not every LEGO Star Wars helmet produced so far is a sure-fire winner and some may require a little artistic license to fully take in where Star Wars style may otherwise clash with LEGO functionality, but on more than one occasion now this mini collection within the LEGO Star Wars theme has produced perfect brick-built wonders, and 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet is the latest example of how.

Where particular helmets such as 75276 Stormtrooper Helmet, 75304 Darth Vader Helmet or the upcoming 75349 Captain Rex have come close to nailing the source material but – through the challenges of some quite complex geometry – have had to compromise in one feature or another to, in effect, change the helmet’s ‘expression’, others such as 75274 TIE Fighter Helmet, 75305 Scout Trooper Helmet, 75328 The Mandalorian Helmet and now 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet seemingly so perfectly fit the LEGO medium so that every feature of their face is as proportioned as you would expect and hope, just as you see on screen.

We barely need to explain why LEGO Star Wars 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet does this because it photographs so well and so convincingly as a replica of one of the original trilogy’s most famous and story-relevant helmets, worn by Princess Leia disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh as she tries to rescue Han Solo from his carbonite-frozen state at Jabba’s palace.

Such is how that helmet was used in story, character and reveal, you can look at it and just hear Leia’s distorted ‘Boushh’ voice, and it’s the same sense you have when having finished putting together 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet. From every angle this is excellent mimicry, in proportions, colours and details. Subtle changes in material on the source material are very cleverly imitated in brick form through smart design, just as the particular shaping and contours are skilfully captured.

Importantly too for what is a display piece that looks excellent but has no playability once built, the build process is thoroughly engaging. For how good this helmet is you are somewhat pulled in to wondering how it is put together from just LEGO bricks, and the reveal on that is packed with satisfaction and LEGO goodness.

As we have written with the other prominent LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection sets released over the past couple of years, these are LEGO sets that represent something different for both seasoned and new builders/fans of the brick. Play doesn’t exist in the same way as display and build do here, and any number of the previous LEGO Star Wars helmets has demonstrated that prioritising just two of the usual three elements to a LEGO set does not take away from the intrinsic LEGO experience and value that is possible.

The very best helmets represent some of the very best LEGO Star Wars sets too, for tapping into that same nostalgic feel as any of the UCS sets or minifigure-packed playsets that the theme offers. LEGO Star Wars 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet is one of the most accurate and nostalgia-fuelled helmets released so far and, as such, is also one of the strongest LEGO Star Wars sets released recently. Don’t tell the LEGO Group, but such sets are more than worth paying full price (£59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99) on release day (March 1) for, should you have the budget.
