LEGO celebrates May the 4th with designer video for 75355 X-wing Starfighter

The LEGO Group has published a timely video for its latest UCS set, celebrating May the 4th with a closer look at 75355 X-wing Starfighter from designer Henrik Andersen.

Available today for everyone (not just VIP members), 75355 X-wing Starfighter is already on back order in the UK, US and Europe. The third Ultimate Collector Series iteration of Luke Skywalker’s most iconic ship is clearly doing pretty well – and the man behind it was actually also responsible for the very first version, 7191 X-wing Fighter, which flew on to shelves all the way back in 2000.

That’s just one of the secrets you’ll learn by checking out the LEGO Group’s latest designer video, which gives LEGO Star Wars veteran Henrik Andersen the opportunity to talk in-depth about bringing 75355 X-wing Starfighter to life. You can watch the entire clip for yourself by hitting play below (or heading over to the official LEGO YouTube channel).

Other nuggets of info shared by Andersen include his determination to print the windshield (the last UCS X-wing’s windscreen was stickered), some of the unusual pieces that went into detailing the set, and a closer look at the function to deploy the ship’s s-foils.

You can learn even more about how 75355 X-wing Starfighter comes together by checking out our written and video reviews. We’ve also got an exclusive interview with Andersen direct from Star Wars Celebration 2023, in which he shares even more secrets than you’ll find in the official LEGO video – such as whether that brilliant Luke Skywalker minifigure is likely to show up in any other Star Wars sets…

75355 X-wing Starfighter is available now at LEGO.com, and will instantly qualify for any remaining May the 4th freebies in your region. (40591 Death Star II has already sold out in the UK and Europe, but is still available in the US.)

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
